About Alpwacht

Alpwacht is a cyber security consultancy based in Munich and Zurich. We advise organisations in Germany, Switzerland and the wider EU that run critical services, handle regulated data or build products that others rely on.

The name joins Alp, the high mountain pasture, with Wacht, the German word for watch. It recalls the watch kept over the Alps, and the steady, unhurried attention we think good security work needs.

We are independent of product vendors and do not resell software. Our recommendations follow from the client's risks and obligations, and we say so plainly when a simpler measure would serve better than a new tool.

How we work

Evidence before opinion: We base findings on configurations, logs, tests and interviews, and we show the client the evidence behind each one.
Proportionate measures: Controls should match the risk and the size of the organisation. We do not recommend what the client cannot operate.
Discretion: We handle client information on a need-to-know basis, under confidentiality agreements, and we never name clients without their consent.
Knowledge stays with the client: We document our work and train the people who will carry it on, so that each engagement leaves the client more capable than before.

Security as part of how an organisation is run

Regulation in Europe and Switzerland now treats cyber security as a duty of management, with deadlines and personal accountability. We think that is right. Security decisions belong next to investment, production and compliance decisions, made by people who understand both the business and the technology.

Our aim is to be the firm that engineers and executives both trust to tell them the plain state of things. That means calm assessments, clear priorities and work that still holds up when the auditor, the supervisor or an attacker tests it.

Zurich is Switzerland's financial centre and home to many banks, insurers and technology firms. Our team there works within Swiss law and close to the institutions it serves.
